TL;DR and random bolding ahead.
Hello, fats! I come with a question. This year I'll be experiencing my first winter north of the Mason-Dixon Line (in NYC) and I'm looking to buy myself some high quality, comfortable, fashionable knee-high boots that will get me through the winter. I prefer flat boots or boots with a very low heel that are walking friendly. I'm definitely looking for something with a much higher quality than your usual Torrid/Lane Bryant/Avenue show. I would LOVE for the boots to be waterproof or water resistant. (Wet feet are for sucker chumps!) I like leather. I wear an 11W in shoes and my calves are about 19" around. Any suggestions? Extra points if the boots are available in a brick & mortar store for me to try on.
I ordered the Four Seasons Blazer in two sizes from Kiyonna in September and returned one. Fast-forward to December and I still have not seen a refund on my credit card statement. This morning I called customer service, gave my order number, and was informed that everything was fine and my credit card would be refunded now.
So, fatshionistas, here is my question: is this a typical Kiyonna return experience? Is a phone call usually required in order to receive a refund? I am very pleased with the quality and fit of the jacket I received and I would like to try more items from Kiyonna but the glacial pace of this transaction is discouraging.

From Celebslam:
"In my never-ending quest to chronicle the drunken antics of celebrities, both domestic and abroad, here's British socialite/model/famewhore Katie Price stumbling out of London's Movida nightclub last Friday. According to Flynet, "it seems her fake tan had been running down her leg as she left at 3:15am!" You'll have to excuse Katie for cutting the night so short. She had etiquette lessons later that morning at 8:30. Remember, a proper lady knows that the fork goes to the left of the dinner plate."

Jaimee Grubbs -- a 24-year-old cocktail waitress who broke the news to Us Weekly that she had a 31-month affair with Tiger Woods -- says the golfer, 33, never wanted to use protection.
"He didn't use a condom," says Grubbs, who adds that Woods also didn't ask if she was on birth control, either. "It wasn't even discussed. He just never used one."
Apparently, he also didn't use condoms while bedding 33-year-old restaurant manager Mindy Lawton, according to Lawton's sister, Lynn. "She said he never wore condoms," Lynn told British tabloid, News of the World. "I was so worried she might catch a disease, especially as we suspected he was promiscuous."
Experts tell Usmagazine.com that not only did Woods risk his own life, but also the lives of his wife, model Elin Nordegren, and their two children, Sam, 2, and Charlie, 10 months.

He says he wants to raise racial awareness…

Jay Sean has said he is trying to raise awareness of Indian culture in the US- where he went to number one earlier this year.
The West London boy told The Independent: “I'm a novelty to them. A brown-skinned man who isn't a Muslim, and doesn't speak like the stereotypical cornershop-owning Indian.
“I've spent a lot of time in America these past couple of years, and the level of ignorance regarding Indian culture is vast. I suppose there are still not enough of us over there yet; their immigrant population is still mostly Hispanic. Fair enough, I suppose.”
Jay said he can help people know more about his culture. He told the paper: “I have an opportunity here to raise awareness, and that's always been important to me.
“I'll never be content with just walking around Hammersmith and the neighbouring boroughs in the hope that people know who I am. I want to be recognised globally and to be a positive representative for my community.”

ZOO is a collection of short stories by acclaimed Japanese horror author, Otsuichi. It’s translated, which always begs for an original reading to see what, if anything, has been lost or gained in the switch to another language. The writing isn’t too descriptive. It borders on the extremely bare-bones, minimalism to the point where I began to imagine the narrative in comic book form with illustrations to fill in the emotion I felt was missing from the text (my rating reflects this--it would be a 4 star otherwise). To be fair, my only other experience with Japanese horror was The Ring and that as manga. I can never bring myself to watch the film (or any Japanese horror film), but I was so scared by the end of reading the comic I gave it away when I was finished. That being said, I steeled myself for jumping into ZOO. With time and distance, I was sure I’d appreciate the tingly terror Otsuishi’s writing would elicit. While some of the stories read quickly, there’s always some lingering emotion left over that makes you want to stop and think about what was just read. Because this is an ARC, I won’t quote the book, but I desperately want to. There are some gruesome scenes that, when combined with some of the more incredulous and ridiculous dialogue and behavior clash against my sensibilities of propriety. I think there’s a certain appreciation that comes with Japanese horror that has to be taken into consideration before anyone attempts to read something like ZOO. It’s not Stephen King by any stretch of the imagination. There’s always something a little ridiculous and weird in the premise of a Japanese horror story--something that require a strong suspense of belief in what you’d expect to happen or what’s accepted behavior, or turn of events. There’s a lot of fantasy that has to be believed in order to appreciate the fiction created. Also, there’s a lot of corny dialogue that begs for re-writes, but don’t be put off. A lot of the stories have an underlying creepiness about them that stay with you long after the story’s been put to rest. And that, I think, is the benefit of reading Japanese horror.

Play description from the Washington Post:
Fans of the television series "Boston Legal" would be well advised to head to David Mamet's new play "Race," in which James Spader is once again doing a crackerjack job of portraying a ruthless lawyer. But while his character might as well be named Alan Shore, instead it's Jack Lawson who, along with his black partner, Henry Brown (David Alan Grier), is faced with the task of defending a rich white man against charges of raping his black girlfriend. Mamet's work is clearly meant to be an incendiary examination of racial and gender politics a la his "Oleanna." Like that play, "Race" ultimately doesn't quite fulfill its thematic aspirations, but it's a far more entertaining effort that benefits from the playwright's trademark crackling dialogue.

I was reading the newest Entertainment Weekly (the Best of the Decade issue with Johnny Depp on the cover) at the gym today and came across this on the reader letters page:
"A Fine Romance
The interview with Carter Bays of How I Met Your Mother (TV section) explained so much about Barney and Robin's break-up. But does he really think a career-minded individualist like Barney can't have a girlfriend without 'wearing a sweater-vest and going to bed-and-breakfasts'? If that were true, the world's Barneys and Robins could never find love! If the producers can ever envision the possibility of real love without the traditional marriage-and-kids trappings, I hope they revisit Barney and Robin."
One of you, perhaps? Regardless, I'm glad to see more people speaking out. It's not sweater-vests or dying alone.
At least, I hope not...
