let's rewind and take a minute to appreciate this fabulous song.
En Vogue feat. Salt n' Pepa - whatta man
What a man, what a man, what a man
What a mighty good man
What a man, what a man, what a man
What a mighty good man
What a man, what a man, what a man
What a mighty good man
What a man, what a man, what a man
What a mighty good man
I wanna take a minute or two, and give much respect due
To the man that's made a difference in my world
And although most men are ho's he flows on the down low
Cuz I never heard about him with another girl
But I don't sweat it because it's just pathetic
To let it get me involved in that he said/she said crowd
I know that ain't nobody perfect, I give props to those who deserve it
And believe me y'all, he's worth it
So here's to the future cuz we got through the past
I finally found somebody that can make me laugh
(Ha ha ha) You so crazy
I think I wanna have your baby
CHORUS
My man is smooth like Barry, and his voice got bass
A body like Arnold with a Denzel face
He's smart like a doctor with a real good rep
And when he comes home he's relaxed with Pep
He always got a gift for me everytime I see him
A lot of snot-nosed ex-flames couldn't be him
He never ran a corny line once to me yet
So I give him stuff that he'll never forget
He keeps me on Cloud Nine just like the Temps
He's not a fake wannabe tryin' to be a pimp
He dresses like a dapper don, but even in jeans
He's a God-sent original, the man of my dreams
Yes, my man says he loves me, never says he loves me not
Tryin' to rush me good and touch me in the right spot
See other guys that I've had, they tried to play all that mac shit
But every time they tried I said, "That's not it"
But not this man, he's got the right potion
Baby, rub it down and make it smooth like lotion
Yeah, the ritual, highway to heaven
From seven to seven he's got me open like Seven Eleven
And yes, it's me that he's always choosin'
With him I'm never losin', and he knows that my name is not Susan
He always has heavy conversation for the mind
Which means a lot to me cuz good men are hard to find
CHORUS
My man gives real loving that's why I call him Killer
He's not a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am, he's a thriller
He takes his time and does everything right
Knocks me out with one shot for the rest of the night
He's a real smooth brother, never in a rush
And he gives me goose pimples with every single touch
Spends quality time with his kids when he can
Secure in his manhood cuz he's a real man
A lover and a fighter and he'll knock a knucker out
Don't take him for a sucker cuz that's not what he's about
Every time I need him, he always got my back
Never disrespectful cuz his mama taught him that
CHORUS

you need to see this movie. it is excellent. jamal woodward is amazing. angela bassett is absolutely fantastic. naturi naughton is gorgeous and fun as the very sexual lil kim (even if you do see basically all of her body and the sex scenes with biggie are a little bit strange). and biggie's son is great as a younger version of his father. the music's fun, the story's fast and factual...it clearly presents the dramatic life of the notorious b.i.g. in a fun and exciting way. i know i sound lame, but it's really good. i thought it did a really good job of explaining a lot of things...like how he got in the music biz, how he teamed up with puffy, his dramatic relationship with lil kim and her rise to fame. and i thought it did a really good job of depicting the whole biggie, tupac/east coast, west coast rivalry thing, especially for those of us that are too young to remember how that all actually went down (i mean, i was six when biggie died, i remember hearing the songs on the radio and knowing a lot of them, especially "hypnotize" and hearing the whole east side, west side thing and hearing about him dying, but i didn't know it all) and so that was really interesting how such simple things could end up in such a big feud that could end two lives. the movie also portrayed an interesting side of tupac, as kind of a two-faced guy, with his whole revolutionary thing and then his thug life thing...i mean, if they make a tupac biopic in a few years, it'll probably portray biggie really negatively as a womanizer and a player and a hustler...but this movie already kind of did that. i mean, it presented biggie as a hero and an icon, but it was also really honest, i thought, about how he was. if it wasn't, then they were just doing a disjustice to biggie because they made him look like a total ass in some of the parts, what with neglecting his daughter tiana and her mother jan and treating lil kim like shit and basically attacking faith evans and just cheating on women all the time and being an ass a ton, so i feel like since this movie was heavily influenced by his friends and family and it had a lot of these negative aspects of his life, the film was for the most part brutally honest. but it really was about how messed up a bunch and just kept growing and learning from his mistakes and right before he died he finally "became a man" and was growing up and going to treat people right and live right, which is almost a little too dramatic and romantic to think that it's true, but stranger stuff happens, and death's tragic enough as it is, so it actually probably is true. and puff daddy's dance moves are out of control. it's kind of a running joke (at least it was to me and the other people in the theater, i'm not sure if it was intentional because sean combs produced the movie) that puff daddy is always kind of there and doing these crazy dance moves and wearing these outlandish outfits and just kind of singing random stuff occasionally on all the tracks. there's this one part where suge knight says something like why is the executive producer on all your songs and doing all this dancing and everyone laughed because it's so true! i've been laughing for years about diddy's one dance move and how i'm still totally perplexed as to how he rose to fame because he really didn't do anything besides do that one dance move and a little bit of back up for biggie and now he's like on top of hollywood and what not...i mean, it explains in the movie how he was really an influential producer and stuff and it's like okay, okay, i get it, but his dance moves definitely added some comedy for the people in the theater because they were so nineties, and of course it's funny, as many things are, because it's true. even though i laughed quite a bit, i definitely cried at the end. they cut the final scenes of his funeral train with real shots from when it went through brooklyn and it was just so moving to see all those people out there singing biggie's songs while his mom drove by. so sad. you should really see it though. the acting's good, too. actually, i was surprised to see this one actor, mark john jefferies, in it as lil cease. he was the kid in the haunted mansion, and this is definitely a step up from that. the only person i was disappointed with was antonique smith who played faith evans because sometimes, especially in the fight scenes, i felt like she was kind of lame and over acting, but whatever, it didn't really take away from the movie. SEE IT! it's worth the ten bucks!!!!!
hands down, kurt cobain. i have so many crazy kurt cobain emotional experiences. i've told this story so many times, but i'll tell it again. i remember when he died. i wasn't even four yet. but i remember the "big boys" sitting in the middle of the road wearing all black. i don't think i understood what was going on, but i knew something had happened. i didn't even think about kurt cobain again for years. over the summer of 2004, when i was 13, i was at a church convention, and i saw a girl wearing a shirt that said something like rip blah blah blah (i didn't know who it was) 1967-1994...i started thinking that maybe that was the person i remember the boys mourning for, but i wasn't sure. i also thought maybe it was the person my mom had been talking about, when we were watching the music video for "it's my life" by no doubt and gwen stefani's in court and my mom said something like that was fitting for her and i was like what, what are you talking about and she was like well isn't she that crazy lady whose husband was a rockstar and committed suicide? and i was like um no i'm definitely sure that gwen stefani's husband is alive and kickin (and looking hot as hell...) and i have no idea who you're talking about...but i remember thinking, what kind of rockstar would kill themselves? at that point in my life all i wanted more than everything was fame and money and beauty and if you had it all, why would you give it up? but it all started to come together that summer. one night, after a country club swim meet, i was falling in and out of sleep and i heard a song that sounded all too familiar, but i couldn't place it. i'm sure it was coming from the tv, but i don't even remember if the tv was on, if it was, i think it was on vh1, but i could never figure out what program it was...i remember the tv or the dream or whatever it was saying something like "smells like teen spirit" and "nirvana" and "kurt cobain." the next day, after i dried my beautiful blonde hair and watched regis and kelly, i went online to listen to search smells like teen spirit...i listened to the song and it all came back to me...i remembered where i knew it from...hearing it on the big boys' boomboxes while they played street hockey and had super soaker fights...i searched kurt cobain, i saw his face, i remembered seeing that face before, on television, in my youth...i started to remember it all, the nineties, the grunge, the flannel...my desire to be just like the big boys...how i would wear my dad's clothes trying to look "grungy." kurt looked so young, i couldn't figure it out, why would he kill himself? i kept reading, it said he was "the voice of a generation"...i just was so intrigued by it...maybe because i could vaguely remember all of it, when it happened, and i was just curious to remember more of my own childhood, the bits and pieces of the culture when i grew up, in the days that i still consider the best days of my life, but maybe because it was just such a mystery to me, such a tragedy, that such a young, beautiful, talented person would throw themselves away like that. i was obsessed with him, with nirvana. all summer, all i listened to, all i talked about, all i thought about was nirvana, nirvana, nirvana and kurt cobain, kurt cobain, kurt cobain. it changed my life entirely. i became a completely different person before i went to high school. if i hadn't "rediscovered" him, who knows what i would have been like, where i would be now. would i have ever dated frankie, would i be friends with half the people i ended up being friends with, would i have even half of the same interests as i do now, would i have ever stopped being the preppy pink princess and gone through all my phases, experiencing all these different sides of life? who knows. it's incredible to think of all the things that i might not have done if nirvana hadn't been part of my life and if i hadn't been so intrigued and mystified by his death. kurt changed my life, hands down.

Natalie Maines Sued for Defamation
Posted Dec 4th 2008 12:00PM by Stephen L. Betts

Dixie Chicks' lead singer Natalie Maines is being sued for defamation over statements she allegedly made about the stepfather of one of three 8-year-old boys murdered in Crittenden County, Ark. in 1993.
Arkansasbusiness.com reports that a complaint was filed November 25 in Pulaski County Circuit Court by Terry Hobbs, the stepfather of one of the murdered boys, Steve Branch. The complaint alleges Maines wrongfully made a "false and reckless claim that [Hobbs] committed the murders of the three boys ..."
Steve Branch, Christopher Byers and Michael Moore were found dead May 5, 1993 in a West Memphis, Ark. neighborhood. Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin, all of West Memphis, were convicted of the murders in 1994.
Maines -- identified by her married name, Pasdar, in the lawsuit -- allegedly made the comments during a rally last December on the steps of the Arkansas State Capitol in Little Rock.
The lawsuit also claims that Pasdar "recklessly published or caused to be published malicious, libelous, slanderous, and false statements" on the band's website in November 2007.
The lawsuit further claims that the statements were republished by several media outlets, including FOX News, The Memphis Commercial Appeal, and PEOPLE magazine.
The lawsuit seeks undisclosed punitive damages and "all other just and proper relief to which he may be entitled."
The case has attracted national attention, with many claiming insufficient evidence was presented to convict Echols, Misskelley and Baldwin, known as the "West Memphis Three." The controversial trials were the subject of a 1996 documentary film, and a 2000 sequel.

A Fabby Halloween: Romy and Michele
Thu, 10/16/2008 - 6:00am by FabSugar
With my own high school reunion looming over me, I can't help but rejoice in the '97 chick flick Romy and Michele's High School Reunion. My night will surely not have me laughing every five minutes (actually, maybe), be filled with candy colored clothes (actually, maybe), and have the ever-hilarious Janeane Garofalo storming through (if only). Romy and Michele are the cutest losers I've ever met — and they love to dress up. Grab your hottest homie and find some blond wigs. From there, opt to be Romy and Michele by day — you just need casual but funky separates. Or, Romy and Michele on the dance floor in metallic Barbie-girl dresses and platform sandals. Lastly, you can be faux Post-It inventors in Robert Palmer babe black. The many lovable personalities of these kooky blondes can all be done on a dime, so what are you waiting for?

rsvp Quinne (Cushioned by Foot Petals) ($84)

Feathered And Flirty (Blonde) Wig ($20)

Craft Supply Feathers Long Feather String Rainbow Blue

Charlotte Russe Leopard Bangle ($11)

Fred Flare Sprinkle Heart Ring ($11)

Steve Madden PURPLE METALLIC evening clutch ($20, originally $50)

Kenneth Cole shirred halter top ($40, originally $98)

Pink Silk Choker with Freshwater Pearls and Sterling Silver Closure ($40)

A Fabby Halloween: Party Girl

H-h-hello? If you're going to be Parker Posey's best role in this mid-90 flick for Halloween you need to perfect her signature greeting. This film actually had a big influence in my moving to the big bad city of NYC in the late '90s. Mary's club kid life was so cool and quirky‚ or so I thought. She couldn't pay rent, but she did what any style maven does and struggled in style. From party girl to librarian, Mary stomped around in blobby platforms, bold hats, animal prints and themed getups. This is an easy costume to recreate — just raid your and your friends' ten-year-old clothes. Throw in some updated razzle-dazzle, put on some Deee-Lite and you're party girl ready.

Kay Unger Swirl Print Mesh Top $190 – Nordstrom

Leopard Sateen Coat $78 – Rampage

Opaque Colored Tights $19.50 – Armani Exchange

Marc Jacobs Iris Sequined Evening Bag $1,895 – Neiman Marcus

Lucy Belted Short Item#: 154028 $29.50

T.U.K. - A7317L (Black) $56 – Zappos

Jeweled Choker/Headband $8 – Forever 21

Jennifer Ouellette Feather Fan Barrette $35 – Barneys

Jumbo Cocktail Rings $18 – Fred Flare

i love holiday episodes of tv shows, just in general...even of shows that i don't particularly like...i always watch the holiday episodes. here are some of my favorite halloween episodes from various tv shows:
"night of the day of the dead" lizzie mcguire. i love how they took a twist on a typical halloween episode by incorporating the day of the dead tradition. very cultural. and of course, i love lizzie mcguire. available for purchase on itunes.

"the mummy in the maze" bones. i love bones, and this is quite possibly one of the best episodes. it's uber-creepy. and totally halloweenolicious. ha, and you gotta love the costumes! and um, SHAWN HUNTER IS IN IT! available for purchase on itunes.

"who's afriad of cory wolf?" boy meets world. old school episode! where cory turns into a werewolf, lol!!!! it's so funny! this is like season 2, when eric was still the good-looking older brother full of worldly wisdom. available to watch on youtube, here's part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kfFOhduw q-Y

"and then there was shawn" boy meets world. this isn't actually a halloween episode, but it definitely counts. it's the one with "jennifer love fefferman" that's basically a parody of all teen scream horror flicks. but then it has a totally meaningful ending. available to watch on youtube, part one here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8LXZxcEd RCA

gilmore girls. because for some reason this is just a very fall show.
wizards of waverly place.
my favorite month. there are just some things that are so...october, you know?
so i think i'm going to do a series of things that remind me of october...starting with, my favorite "october" movies. some of these movies have nothing to do with the actual month of october, they just feel like october to me.
october sky.

of course, this is because it has october in the title, and also because it just feels like october to me, probably because it's called october sky...hard to tell if it's just because of the title or not, but it's a great story, and you know i love history and the 1950s...and it's so sad! and homer is hot, jake gyllenhaal all the way!
national treasure.

i always felt like this movie took place in the fall, especially the scene where they're shopping at urban outfitters...they pick out very fall clothes. and this is just one of my favorite movies of all time.
twitches.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE! it's so much fun! and it's october all around! i mean, it obviously takes place in october so the awesome halloween funness and scenery is just spectacular! and i've always loved tia and tamera! i remember when this movie came out in october 05, one of my favorite octobers ever!
twitches too.

of course. it's just as much...if not more...fun than the first! and just as cute too!
hocus pocus.

when i was little, i was so afraid of this movie! but then, when i was like 7, i was like omg hocus pocus rocks! and it really does! it is probably one of the most fun halloween movies of all time! i love the whole salem with trials/historical aspect of it, and max is totally hot in that 90s way, and thackary is kind of hot in that 1600s way....
sleepy hollow.

this movie is so typically tim burton. so creepy, yet so good. i love the imagery...the entire town of sleepy hollow is just so like creepy and stark but i totally love it. this movie IS october. and i love christina ricci, as we all know....and yes, johnny depp is in it as well :).
the hollow.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say that most people have never seen this movie...let alone heard of it. it's with nick carter (yeah, i know...), kaley cuoco (one of my fave girls), and kevin zegers (so hot!). it's another take on sleepy hollow in like a fun teen thriller really not scary but kind of trying to be sort of way. it's about kids that live in the town of sleepy hollow, which is like still obsessed with the legend and then kevin zegers finds out that he's a descendent of icabod crane. it's super fun.
breakfast at tiffany's.

ah, what a lovely, glamorous movie. that does, indeed, take place in the fall, in october i think, because when they're stealing things at the store there are halloween masks! ah, this is just such a good movie! it makes me feel happy and nice! and i love the soundtrack, moon river forever!!!!!

i know this movie spans over an entire school year, but this is an october movie all the way. does anyone else LOVE the scene in the dining hall during halloween when the jack-o-lanterns are like floating in the air??? and the food always looks so good, especially in that scene! that alone made me want to go to hogwarts!!!!

teen witch.

classic disney at it's best. with blake lively's older sis! i love how this was originally a sequel to teen wolf...ha. i love this movie though! i heard they might remake it, with ashley tisdale!
marie antoinette.

maybe it's the macabre aspect of the young french queen...or the fall woods where she's transformed from a young austrian girl into marie antoinette...or maybe it's that there's a sex scene set to bauhaus...idk, i just really like this movie...visually. like i could watch it on mute or just have it play in the background of a party or something...but it has good music, too. i just love the costumes, the scenery, the decadance...
halloweentown.

the original. not the second. hated it. halloweentown high was okay, not as bad as kalabar's revenge, but still not the original. i refused to see return to halloweentown because they replaced the original marnie with sara paxton, but now that it's october! i might reconsider just because i'm in the mood to watch any and all halloween movies. but anyway i love this movie. that's like my dream...to live in a town where it's always halloween. and after i saw this, i was just like waiting to find out i'm really a witch!
corpse bride.

sometimes i feel like no one else liked this movie. true, i didn't like it as much as the nightmare before christmas, but it's still fun and i loooove the music!

i love this movie, because it's got the whole retro-glamour-historical side, with the swing music and all, and i also love kirsten dunst..and morgan from boy meets world!
interview with the vampire.

so good. the historical costumes and sets are fabulous, and kirsten dunst is great as mini-vampire claudia...oh, and brad pitt is the sexiest vampire ever.
the haunted mansion.

love the movie as much as i love the ride (when it's not broken, which it seems to be quite often these days....). but this movie is just so cute and fun! i remember seeing it with my cousin when i was in 8th grade and actually being kind of like woah! at some parts, and i enjoyed it so much that i saw it again with my dad, and i saw my math teacher there, like with his five year old son, and i remember thinking wow i'm too old for this movie but i totally love it...yeah....

krista came over to say goodbye, and we had so much fun! we watched acting with james franco and talked about how much it would suck if someone from our school married him, ha...we always come up with the most out-there stuff...except if you actually knew the entire story about how this came up, it wouldn't really seem thaaaat far-fetched, but that's another story...i'm for sure still going to be calling krista up a lot. who else is going to know what i mean when i say stuff like "carlos the dwarf" and "he leans great???" no one. at least no one else i know right now...well, carly gets the jordan catalano stuff to some degree, but most people don't. so i'll def call krista and stuff. and i'll miss most of my other friends, too. we've had fun times, of course, but it's not like i'm going away forever to siberia or something...it's 2008, i don't have to go half an hour without communicating people if i don't want to...
anyway.
we had dinner with both sets of grandparents tonight and that was nice.
i ate way too much though. and i feel kind of sick...
i took two naps tonight. how strange is that? actually both naps occured while i attempted to watch team usa crush greece in basketball. the first time i was watching it live by myself and just dozed off because it was super early, and then later i was like really tired and i was watching the game again with marshall because we recorded it and i just fell asleep again but it was like really cold in the family room so i kept waking up.
even though i took those quick naps, i'm still totally tired and want to go to sleep pretty soon, but i really want to watch the gymnastics! and i loooove nastia lukin's outfit tonight! sooooo, my style! i like her a lot, but i really like shawn johnson, too, so i'd be happy to see either one of them win. i love the olympics. love, love, love!
ah, i'm gonna go watch some gymnastics now...tata!

Jena Malone, The New Lori Petty?
Posted by Jarett Wieselman at 03:26 PM on August 12, 2008
Wrapped under: Fashion
When I quickly scanned over this pic of Jenna Malone, I thought, "Yea! Lori Petty's getting back in the game!" But alas, Jenna just seems to be channeling the one-time Kit Keller.
Ripping off Lori's "Point Break" by way of "Tank Girl" hair with the latter also inspiring Jenna's combat ready wardrobe, the 23-year-old seems to be truly embracing her indie label.
I love Jenna's movies - "Contact," "Donnie Darko," "Stepmom," "Life as a House," "The Ruins," "Into the Wild" and "Saved!" all live in my DVD collection - and am also kinda digging this haircut. It's wild, it's saucy, it's anti-Hollywood, just like Jenna herself.
Keep up the good work kid, just maybe find a better actress to model yourself after. You know, one that didn't peak after five movies.

from usa today:
'Pineapple' star Franco digs deep, plays stoner and serious
Updated 6h 56m ago
By Donna Freydkin, USA TODAY
NEW YORK — James Franco is flying high.
In June, he graduated from UCLA with an English degree. On Wednesday, he's starring in comedy king Judd Apatow's latest romp, the stoner "bromance" action comedy Pineapple Express, with Franco's dense pot dealer Saul going on the lam with his equally obtuse customer Dale (Seth Rogen). And in November, he romances Sean Penn in Gus Van Sant's Milk, a biopic of San Francisco's first openly gay elected official.
"Who would have thought I'd play a Spicoli-like character and then make out with Spicoli in the same year?" wonders Franco, 30, referring to Penn's infamous pothead surfer from 1982's Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
Milk producer Bruce Cohen, for starters: "It couldn't be a better showcase for his talent to look at these two roles. They're both different sides of him.
"He's had a lot of life experience," Cohen says. "He can bring the attributes of the young stoner guy he needs for Pineapple, but underneath that is the scholar and the deep thinker and the guy who wants to learn about art and is interested in politics. His performances are complex and layered."
And this year, they are getting major notice. Franco has been kicking around Hollywood since the late '90s, when Apatow's short-lived but critically adored TV dramedy Freaks and Geeks put him on the map and set many teen hearts aflutter. Since then, he won a Golden Globe for his 2001 portrayal of James Dean in TNT's TV biopic and alternately befriended and battled Tobey Maguire's Peter Parker in the behemoth Spider-Man trilogy.
His career has been a mixed bag of the artsy, the big-budget and the plain forgettable. So it's somehow fitting that Franco is back in the spotlight in tandem with Pineapple producer Apatow, who first spotted Franco's lighter side on Freaks, and Freaks co-star Rogen, who realized that the two had sizzling chemistry.
Apatow calls Franco "a very smart, sweet person. He seems to have really evolved over the last 10 years into this really easygoing, approachable, warm man. When we did Freaks and Geeks, he was so hungry and obsessed with the work. It made him a little more of an intense guy. Now, he's very happy in his life."
Switching roles
Apatow and Franco stayed in touch after Freaks was canceled. By happenstance they ran into each other at the Austin airport in 2005, when Franco was promoting The Ape, a comedy he directed, at the city's film festival. Apatow suggested they work together again. Flush from the success of his 2005 comedy The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Apatow sent Franco a script that he and Rogen had been kicking around for years but hadn't been able to get produced. Suddenly, they could.
"We sent him Pineapple for the role of Dale. The idea came up to switch roles," says Rogen, who co-wrote the screenplay about two potheads on the run from a crooked cop and murderous dealers.
The casting flip-flop paid off. Franco, says Rogen, is "so lovable in the movie, and we didn't predict that the lovability of Franco would come through so much. (Saul) was written as the dumbest guy on earth. No one's sitting there thinking James Franco should play (him). Sometimes it takes working with your friends to bring that up and believe it would work."
Franco takes his work seriously, even more so when it comes to the funny stuff.
Even Franco's seemingly thrown-together ensemble — starting with the greasy, matted wig he's sporting — is no accident.
"We're on the run, we don't have the chance to change, I have one outfit, so we'd better get it right," says Franco. "They wanted me to wear these Guatemalan pants. I was like, 'Who wears these awful things?' And Judd and Shauna Robertson, the other producer, are good friends with Woody Harrelson and said, 'Woody wears these all the time.' I even met some other friends of Woody's and they're like, 'Yeah, Woody wears them.' That's how the outfit came about."
He watched all the major stoner movies, including his favorites that "had something more going on" than just endless weed jokes, such as The Big Lebowski, Fast Times and Brad Pitt's stoned turn in True Romance. But he says he didn't actually smoke any illegal substances to get into character.
Wicked wit
During interviews for Pineapple, he gets asked one question repeatedly: How did he and Rogen research their roles? So he has come up with an answer to throw interviewers for a loop. He tells them he experimented with black-tar heroin, but knew when to pull back.
That's his goofy, sharp sense of humor, also on display in his acting tutorials on FunnyOrDie.com.
"Basically, Pineapple is a documentary," he deadpans. "I was always going to play Saul. They found me in my apartment, there was no script, they just came into my place. My dealer came after me. It was perfect."
In reality, Franco says, "I used to smoke weed, but I haven't done it in a long time. Everybody, even now, thinks, 'That guy is stoned.' It's just the way I talk, because I don't smoke weed. Somehow, there's something about me, the way I talk, that implies that I'm on drugs."
Franco calls Pineapple the most fun movie he ever has worked on. He even had a Saul-like moment when he and a friend took his two plus-sized cats for a walk in Los Angeles.
"We got them leashes so we could take them outside, because they're completely indoor cats. They got so scared," says Franco. "We're walking down Sunset and one of them got out of the leash and jumped over the fence to the Chateau Marmont. We were hunting him down in the bushes of the Chateau Marmont."
The real Franco is nothing like Saul, who hides in trash bins, adores his Bubby (grandma) and slushies, and tries to smash a windshield with his foot.
"He's a very education-minded person," says Apatow. "We used to laugh because in between takes he'd be reading The Iliad on set. We still haven't read The Iliad. It was a very difficult book. With him, it was always James Joyce or something."
On the set of Freaks, recalls Franco, "this sounds so pretentious, but I was reading Proust. And Judd is like, 'Why do you read things like that?' I don't know. It's good? But Judd reads. He gave me a great book called A Fan's Notes by a guy named Frederick Exley."
Higher education
Franco is showcasing his cerebral side in November's Milk, Van Sant's pedigreed political biopic starring Penn as gay activist Harvey Milk, the "mayor of Castro Street," who was assassinated in 1978. Milk producer Dan Jinks says Franco was cast because "there's a sensitivity that exudes from him. He can, without trying, make you see into his soul. He makes it seem effortless."
Franco has known Penn for years and has gone to him for career advice. Back in April, after the film was shot, the two were hanging out at the Coachella music festival with Franco's actress girlfriend, Ahna O'Reilly (Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Penn would ask O'Reilly, " 'What do you think about me being the other girl?' " says Franco. "And he would always ask me if my girlfriend was the better kisser."
For Penn and Franco's first kiss, Van Sant was inspired by a video piece from artist Douglas Gordon featuring two people engaged in a three-minute lip-lock, resulting from a 12-hour make-out session.
Penn and Franco's first smooch lasted "a minute. It doesn't sound like a long time, but in front of 200 people, it's a long time," says Franco. "We're sitting on the curb, kissing. You can't deny what's going on. I'm kissing Spicoli and it's still going and it's not stopping and it was when he had a beard and the beard is scraping me. Afterwards, we were like, 'All right, how are those Raiders?' "
Next up for Franco? Tackling higher education once again, as he moves to Manhattan to pursue a master's degree in writing at NYU and Columbia; his two felines will stay back in Los Angeles with his brother.
Road trip
Before classes start, he would like to go on a road trip to check out what he calls "Earth art pieces" scattered around the western USA.
"I've always wanted to see Smithson's Spiral Jetty in Utah, The Lightning Field of New Mexico. And there's Donald Judd's center in Marfa, Texas," he says.
He hopes to write and direct full time.
As for his decision to go to school just when his career is on fire, courtesy of Pineapple and Milk? Franco responds with a Zen-like attitude Saul would value.
"Some people would say (that was) really stupid. It's not like I'm gonna stop acting. It's just that before I did these two movies, I was really tired of acting," he says.
"I was putting a ton of work in and not getting as much satisfaction out of it. So I just needed something else to focus my attention on, to take the pressure off. Turns out that I love school."

Accomplished actor: James Franco is working toward a master's degree in writing and is interested in art.

Playing against type: James Franco is on the lam in the stoner comedy Pineapple Express. Woody Harrelson inspired Franco's wardrobe.

Serious role: James Franco plays Scott Smith, San Francisco supervisor Harvey Milk's lover, in Milk, which arrives in November.

I am actually not that much into voting. I think it’s kinda crazy that a woman is running, because I think that women deal with a lot of emotions and menopause and PMS and stuff. Like, I’m so moody all the time, I know I couldn’t be able to run a country, ‘cause I’d be crying one day and yelling at people the next day, ya know?"

apparently, no one really likes jessica simpson's new country sound (except for my dad, he thinks she's pretty good)...she got booed when she tried to perform at a country festival this weekend. hahaha.

ABC Family wants to know more about "The Secret Life of the American Teenager."\
Network president Paul Lee is expected to announce Thursday at the TV Critics Assn. summer press tour that the drama series from Brenda Hampton has been picked up for 13 additional episodes three weeks into its run. The order for the show, starring Shailene Woodley as a pregnant teen and Molly Ringwald as her mother, brings the total number of episodes to 23. One of the new segments will be added to the series' initial 10-episode episode run, which concludes Sept. 9. The remaining 12 episodes are tentatively scheduled to air starting in January. In its three weeks on the air, "Teenager" has been growing, scoring series highs and network records this week in key demos. It ranks as ABC Family's most-watched original series ever among total viewers (2.7 million), adults 18-34 (821,000), adults 18-49 (1.2 million) and viewers 12-34 (1.8 million). On iTunes, all three episodes were the No. 1 most-downloaded TV programs the day after their respective premieres. Separately, ABC Family is launching a 12-episode online series starring the Plain White T's later this month. "Meet Me in California" will document the behind-the-scenes process of the "Hey There Delilah" band recording their second major-label album. The series premieres July 30 at ABCFamily.com/plainwhitets, with new five-minute webisodes streaming every Wednesday through October.
mgm is planning to remake the 80s movie valley girl...into a musical! like omigod!

Old meets new in CW's `90210' spinoff
by Mark Dawidziak

Beverly Hills, Calif. -- New characters and new regulars will populate the CW's "90210,'' an updated new version of Fox's 1990-2000 teen soap, "Beverly Hills 90210.'' But some old residents of the famous zip code will help out during the new show's first season, which begins Sept. 2 on WBNX Channel 55.
Original cast member Shannen Doherty will return as Brenda Walsh, hired as a guest director for the high school musical. Jennie Garth will return as Kelly Taylor, now a guidance counselor at West Beverly High School. And producers say Tori Spelling has agreed to reprise the role of Donna Martin for the new series.
The new version stars Rob Estes, Shenae Grimes, Tristan Wilds, Lori Loughlin, Jessica Stroup, Mike Steger, Ryan Eggold and Jessica Walter.
"It is a complete original invention,'' executive prodcuer Jeff Judah told TV critics gathered for their semi-annual press tour. "There will be, though, somewhat of an homage to the original show. . . To set it up a little bit for everybody, it's about a family moving from Kansas back to Beverly Hills. Rob Estes' character actually grew up in Beverly Hills. He was the next-door neighbor to one of our previous characters. They have moved back and it's how they handle this new world. We'll be using people from the previous show in the new one, and they will organically work with our characters.''

so i just went out with my grandma. we were going to see kit kittredge (again, i know, i'm so lame) but she wanted to see mamma mia because she knew that my grandpa would never take her to see it, so we saw that instead. i'm not saying it was a bad movie, it was entertaining, it was just really....intense. it was soooooo estrogen-fueled. i can't imagine any man seeing that movie, seriously. the music is pretty fun, the location is beautiful, amanda seyfried is adorable, and the guys are hot but other than that the movie is just soooo over the top. and it doesn't make sense. they should have said that it was set in the late 90s or something, like when the play originally came out, but if it takes place in the present day, which i guess you assume it does because it never says anything about the year, but if the daughter is supposed to 20 that would mean that she was born in the late 80s, and disco wasn't really big then. also, everyone was too old for that movie. meryl streep was totally wrong for that role, and she definitely could not carry her solo song, it gave me a headache. but the movie is worth seeing just to hear pierce brosnan (attempt to) sing. why didn't they get a voice over or something????? he can't sing at all!!!! amanda seyfried actually sings really well though, i love her. whatever, it was kind of okay, but i wouldn't recommend it.
