Writer's Block: Ten for the Tenth

Some people spend their whole lives preparing the answer to this question: What albums are on your personal all-time Top 10 list?

View 501 Answers

oh boy...here we go.....

(please note, this list is highly subject to change and is not necessarily in correct order because i love all of them too much to do the perfect ranking!!!)

runner-up: "three cheers for sweet revenge" my chemical romance. yeah, whatever, they're emo and kind of lame, but at the time, this was one of the greatest albums i'd ever owned. all the tracks were great, to me they were a completely new sound, and it was really what i needed at the time.

10. "for never and ever" kill hannah. this was just one of those albums that you i could just play straight through and not even skip tracks, which to me is kind of a big thing because i tend to skip all the time. just a really good overall album.

9. "adore" smashing pumpkins. i feel like i'm the only person who considers this a masterpiece. but seriously, this album is great. from beginning to end.

8. "mellon collie and the infinite sadness" smashing pumpkins. AAAAAH! amazing. another album i love listening to straight through...so many GREAT tracks came out of this...."tonight, tonight," "zero," "bullet with butterfly wings," "1979," and so many others. the title of this album also inspired by alter-ego which i referred to myself as for over a year...but let's not talk about that...

7. "good mourning" alkaline trio. the album that really got me into alk3. it's so gloomy and somber and melancholy and dark. so me at 15. so fabulous.

6. "live through this" hole. there's no denying it...i was obsessed with this album in 9th grade. i still love some of the tracks. they're really powerful. this is courtney love at her best.

5. "mtv unplugged in new york" nirvana. i don't really know if this counts as an album or not, because it was really just a show that was recorded. but it's one of the most powerful things i've heard heard/seen in my entire life. it was taped months before kurt died, and if you've never seen it in it's entirety i highly recommend checking it out.

4. "a mark, a mission, a brand, a scar" dashboard confessional. so emo, but so great. this is such a perfect summer album. summer of 2006 this was all that played in my car. another one of those albums where you can play it straight through and never get sick of it. ever.

3. "goddamnit!" alkaline trio. the first and best alkaline trio album. i loved the concert where they played the album straight through. gosh i love this album. all the songs kind of sound the same, but that's kind of the beauty of it, because they're all so great.

2. "sing the sorrow" afi. say what you want about it, but i love it. all the hidden messages and secret tracks...it was so much fun to follow the "mystery" and all of the tracks are fantastic....every afi album is great in my opinion and they all have some tracks that have become some of my favorite songs of all time (with the exception of decemberunderground because that really didn't do it for me), but this is the one album of their's where EVERY song is great. all their albums, however, are close runners-up.

1. "nevermind" by nirvana. the album that started it all for me. i feel like this album has a place on a lot of people's top 10. it's just...perfect.

i absolutely loooove halloween! and halloween music is THE BEST! here's some of my favorite spooky songs:

"walk like a zombie" the horrorpops. I LOVE THIS SONG! it's like retro/rockabilly with a little bit of a horror twist...i guess that could be termed "psychobilly" but no, i just call it perfection. um, and how much do i looooove my walk like a zombie tshirt?!?!?!

"malleus malleficarum" afi. suuuuuch a great fall song in general! the witches hammer...loooooove it!!!! it's just such a great song!

"she's my vampire girl" the groovie ghoulies. i really don't know what this song is, i just found it on itunes one time, but it's so much fun.

"vampire heart" him.

"dragula" rob zombie.

"astro zombies" my chemical romance. misfits cover. can't beat that. it's a really good version.

"zombie graveyard party" be your own pet. loooove them. why did they break up?! :( :(

"bela lugosi's dead" bauhaus. classic.

"monster mash" boris pickett and the crypt kickers. the essential song of halloween, duh.

"monster mash" misfits. take your pick, i love them both, but i just feel like it's perfectly punked out by the misfits.

"ghouls" horrorpops.

"halloween" afi. another misfits cover, but i just love the way that afi does it.

"don't fear the reaper" blue oyster cult. more cowbell!

"thank you for the venom" my chemical romance.

"i was a teenage werewolf" the cramps.

"over at the frankenstein place" alkaline trio.

"helena" my chemical romance.

"incorporeal" tiger army, with davey havok. a great song about the undead.

"vampires curse" koffin kats.

"time warp" rocky horror picture show.

"spellbound" siouxsie and the banshees. old school.

"teenagers" my chemical romance.

"last caress" afi. misfits cover agaaaain.

"this is halloween" marilyn manson. a creepier take on my favorite song from one of my favorite flicks.

"night of the living dead" misfits.

"thunder kiss 65" white zombie.

"forsaken" david dramain. from the queen of the damned soundtrack, totally creepy and still awesome.

"ghoulina" nekromantix.

"living dead girl" rob zombie.

"this magic moment" misfits. there's just something about the misfits performing oldies that makes it perfectly creepy and halloweenish.

"i put a spell on you" marilyn manson.

"runaway" misfits. the del shannon song. because of the reason i said before, and also because this is the song from children of the corn when the little girl is in the house...ha yeah.

"purevil" son of sam. davey havok at his best.

"fall children" afi.

"cemetery drive" my chemical romance.

"mercy me" alkaline trio.

"trick or treat" nekromantix.

"love potion no. 9" the searchers.

"join me in death" him.

"totalimmortal" afi.

"dream lover." misfits.

"this could be love" alkaline trio.

"the munsters theme." loooooove it!!!!!!!

"curse of the coffin" nekromantix.

audrina actually listens to good music.

i really need to do something about my sleeping habits. i slept until NOON! that is so un-megan, for those of you that don't know me. i'm going to have to take my simply sleep at like 5 pm tomorrow so i can get to sleep at a reasonable hour and thus wake up at a reasonable hour. i had the craziest dream last night...it was like apocalyptic and it really freaked me out....the entire world was like overheating (i guess it was about global warming...) and we had to try to get to the coolest place possible and we had to pack up all of our stuff...it was really weird...then in another part of the dream, which i actually think came before this, sorry about the lack of chronological order, i was at like this shabby little movie theater seeing this movie that like predicted how the world was going to end and then what happened in the movie was actually happening, but at the movie theater it was like the premiere of the movie and they were trying to make it all special so they'd asked jared leto to be there to like promote the movie (but he wasn't even in it, i told you this dream was weird) but he was like this washed up loser who had a drinking problem (which is weird because jared leto is actually like pretty successful right now with his new band and all) and he kept disappearing and they kept announcing would jared leto please come to the box office and krista and i were leaving the theater and we saw him standing there and i was like um jared leto they want you to go back inside and he was like oh thanks, don't i know you, and i was like um yeah i've met you before and he was like yeah okay but then he was like to krista, omg, i know you because of your internship at the agora and krista was like all shy but was like hahaha yeah and they talked for a while and i was like screaming, krista we have to go before the earth heats up! it was really fucking weird.

anyway.

i'm pretty pissed that i slept so long. my summer is not going the way that i intended it to. i haven't been working out as much as i want to, i've only read a few books, and i'm still not unpacked from vermont. why am i such a failurrrrrre?????

sugar, sugar.

  • Jul. 5th, 2008 at 2:51 PM

finally i can get back onto the sugar network...maybe it's because i'm on my pc and not my macbook...i have no idea.

anyway.

blake lively looks weird on the cover of seventeen. i'm sorry but she does. i think she's an absolutely beautiful girl and this photo does her no justice.

here's the highlights from the interview:
On getting silly with her co-stars: “Everyone is really funny and has such strange things that they do. Like Leighton does amazing voice impressions, and she can impersonate anyone’s face. Chace does an amazing impression of Scott Stapp from Creed. Ed is always singing. Taylor is just so adorable, I just want to bake her a cupcake. And Penn does these silly dance moves, and he’s very witty and quick, so it’s fun to have sharp banter with him.”
On why she doesn't hit the NYC hot spots: “I don’t drink, so when you’re going out to a really loud place, where you can’t talk to other people, and people are drinking, you can’t really have a conversation. I just never really found too much joy in it. Especially if there’s something else fun to do, like play Guitar Hero.”
On how actors fall for each other off-set: “Maybe when they kiss off the set – because it’s definitely not romantic on the set, that’s for sure. When you’re saying these words that people are making you say to one another, nothing about it is real or genuine. So if two people connect outside their characters, then that’s how they get together.”

hilary duff looks adorable shopping around on fourth of july weekend:

ashley tisdale celebrated her 23rd (gasp!) birthday at the beach with her beau:

i'm hearing reports that megan fox and brian austin green are over....i guess the world's hottest lady is back on the market!

lindsay lohan wore this, um interesting..., get up to her prom-themed (wtf....) birthday party a few nights ago...she changed into a pink strapless dress later on and had a marilyn monroe cake...

(p.s. is it just me or does anyone else wish that her mom and sister's reality show, living lohan, was called living la vida lohan instead? wouldn't that be so much more awesome?????)

i don't know if i mentioned it or not, but they're making a friends movie...isn't it a little late?? hasn't friends been over for like four years??? whatever, i'm still curious to see what happens in it!!!! who's going to be together?? what will they all be doing? can't wait to find out!

perez hilton posted these pictures of frances bean getting some coffee in malibu the other day....little miss cobain seemed to have something very strange written on her arm is perez is speculating as to whether she was drunk or high and has also issued a warning for her to stay as far away from drugs as possible...i mean, considering who her parents are, that's definitely not a bad idea....

news on gossip girl! nate is going to get with an older woman! from just jared:
Chace Crawford films scenes with newbie Madchen Amick for their cult series, Gossip Girl, in New York City on Thursday. Amick, 37, will appear in the first few eps of the new season as cougar Catherine Mason and tempt Nate Archibald (Crawford, 22) with a May-December romance. In the first four or five episodes, it will also be revealed that Amick’s character will also have “a surprising connection to another new character on the show.”
hmmm, wonder what that last part means?????? ah, so excited!!!!!

speaking of gossip girl, buzzsugar has five questions for them:

Will the viewers ever come? Much has been made about Gossip Girl being a high-buzz, low-ratings series, which gets its stars on magazine covers but can't break 3 million viewers per week. Part of that could be due to the different ways the show's young demographic watches TV — some of which can't be tracked by any existing methods (and which are certainly not counted by advertisers). But part of it could just be that not that many people are watching. I keep thinking the buzz will have to pay off in ratings eventually; will this be the year?

Dan and Serena: Will they? Won't they? Do we care? Dan and Serena's relationship is the centerpiece of all the show's many romantic liaisons, but they've already been brought together and ripped apart so many times that I'm starting to get whiplash. It's turning a little into Derek and Meredith 2.0 — when they're together, they're kind of boring, but when they're apart, it just seems like they're in placeholder relationships that don't mean anything since we know they'll just be back together again anyway.

What will become of Georgina? I thought Michelle Trachtenberg gave the show a much-needed evilness infusion as Georgina Sparks, but the resolution to her storyline was one of many things that fell flat in the season finale. Last we saw, she was being shipped off to reform school — but we now know Trachtenberg will be back on the show come Fall. How will little Georgie get herself out of this one?

How much will happen over the Summer? Remember, we're talking about a show that set up a whole set of relationships in the finale, then flipped them on their heads within 10 minutes thanks to a little "one week later" flash-forward. What's going to happen when our Upper East Siders have three whole months of scandal and sun in the Hamptons to fuel them? Will we recognize a single scenario when the show picks up in the Fall?

Will there really be a spinoff? While those first rumors of a spinoff seem a little shady now, it doesn't seem out of the question that GG would use this season to prime one (or more) characters for a second show. After all, it happened in the books. Will certain characters get more time in the spotlight next year to see how they'd do as the focus of a separate series?

i absolutely love this alexander mcqueen dress i found on fabsugar....add this to my inspired by the 4th of july! i wish i'd had this dress for last night if only i could a.) fit in it and b.) buy something this expensive....well, maybe if clothes looked better on me i would buy more expensive ones because it would be worth it....ah, i'm being so harsh on myself! i lost a lot of weight, i'm working out, eating healthy and looking good...but still, i'm no size 2, and that's certainly the size this dress is meant for...well, idk, maybe i could pull it off....err, probably not, but whatever.

the lauren conrad collection is having a really good sale...so check it out!

hbo is going to be showing the entire series of big love in order for the next 24 saturdays...too bad i don't get hbo...good thing i have the series on dvd!

shannen doherty is officially on board for the 90210 spinoff...but tori spelling will not be on the season premiere because of personal reasons...okay, whatever.

you can now join a lost book club on lost's official website which features books referrenced in the show. if i actually watched lost, this would be very, very cool.

buzzsugar is reporting that alkaline trio's new album agony and irony is good...hey, it's cool that they even got mentioned on there....but of course they would! they were on the hills! (rolls eyes...)

check out the new entertainment calendar from buzzsugar: (bigger pic available to download and print on their site!)

in personal news, i've decided that i'm actually going to see the dark knight because i'm really curious to see heath ledger in his last role and see what made him go crazy. i think it will no doubt be chilling and terrifying but i think i'll enjoy it.

i really need to rent season 1 of madmen. well, actually i really don't. i really need to work out more. well, maybe if i watch it while i'm on the elliptical. that's a good plan.....blockbuster better have it!

american idol's kristy lee cook has signed a recording contract with a country label. i'm sure my sister will be happy.

and in the world of comedy: aol had the headline, "singer slams tv hunk's manhood" talking about this quote from victoria beckham: "We didn't have sex. In full fact, he didn't seem to want to try." now, that quote is about corey haim...tv hunk?!?!?!?!?!?!?! WTF?!?!?!?! now he's just a washed up loser who wears berets and jut got out of a really awkward and bloated phase who's only on tv because people like to watch him be a washed up loser and mooch off the feldmans, who are kind of lame but not as washed up as big of losers as corey haim! ummmmm tv hunk, try twenty-five years ago....

that's all i've got for now. catch ya lata!!!!!!!!!!! :P

it's been a long day living with this.

  • Jun. 30th, 2008 at 10:36 PM

not really actually....despite my mother getting pissed at me, today was actually pretty chill...so was yesterday, sorry i didn't up date. yesterday i went to church with the fam, had lunch, took riley on a really long walk, went to sam's graduation party, came back and had dinner with the fam, then saw wanted with my dad. today, i woke up and worked out for a while while i watched summerland, then i worked on planning out the rest of my summer, then lunch at subway, then i saw get smart by myself (i hated it, more on what i thought about it later, i'm too tired and don't have my notes with me right now...yes, i took notes during the movie, it was the only thing keeping me from leaving), then i got my ears pierced, then i went out to dinner with victoria and my grandparents. good day? good day. the end.

our own fear and loathing on cape cod.

oh, praise Jesus. we get internet here!!!!!!!!

sorry about the lack of posting. we were driving all day yesterday (and today) and the place we stayed at last night didn't have wireless.

the drive was absolutely lovely. instead of the boring old pennsylvania turnpike that most of our road trips consist of, we spent most of the time driving through new york state and the scenery was absolutely gorgeous, and let me just say that new york state has the best service plazas in the entire world. they're just really nice and they have really good food. we actually ate lunch at denny's. i'd never eaten at denny's before, and i have to say, it wasn't THAT bad...i mean, it wouldn't be my first choice of dining place and i'll probably never eat there ever again, but it wasn't horrid. anyway, we ended up staying in cooperstown, new york, home of the baseball hall of fame. my mom wanted to go there because she used to have business conferences at this really nice resort there and she thought i would love the little town, which i totally did. it was so cute, so retro, and just so...american! baseball isn't my favorite sport or anything, but the whole baseball atmosphere was really, really cool and fun. we stayed at this little dumpy motel because i refused to stay at a bed and breakfast (the whole concept is creepy...staying at someone's house? come on...) and i decided i would much rather stay in a motel than some creepy old house of some people i don't know at all, so that's what we did. we walked around the town a little bit and ate dinner at this adorable little restaurant. this morning we headed out pretty early after breakfast at the cooperstown diner and we got to drive through all of these small towns of rural new york and it was really nice...especially now that i have that satellite radio. for the majority of the drive, we listened to sirius gold, which is like doo wop, fifties and early sixties stuff, because it just really fit to the small down scenery. once we got on the massachussetts turnpike though, i switched it up with some punk, indie and all that. the station called left of center is really good...they were playing nude as the news by cat power when i first turned it on and i was like omg, a station that plays cat power, and not just normal cat power, but like old school before she got a little more popular and mainstream cat power. and that's one of my favorite songs of all time so it was totally awesome. and the punk station is good, too....lots of bad religion and alkaline trio and all that good stuff. and the station called lithium is pretty awesome, too, because it's like grunge and all of my first loves...ah. so it was just a really enjoyable ride. now i'm here, in cape cod, where i'll only be for about twenty hours, before i go to my health spa in vermont. the entire family is here. this is basically the family reunion. and i'm missing most of it. can't say i'm too upset about that :). in fact, i'm not upset at all. cape cod is lame. i'm sorry, but it really is. i honestly prefer the jersey shore to cape cod. the jersey shore may be tackier/trashier or whatever you want to call it but that's what i like about it, but that's what i like about it. because honestly cape cod is not all that nice, it just thinks it is, and all the preppy little people around here think it is too, when really it's kind of dinky. the jersey shore just kind of embraces the fact that it's a beach town where people just go to party and have a good time, and it works. all the arcades and the boardwalk are actually really fun, and it's just filled with young people and slightly shady but still hot guys. in cape cod, there's just a bunch of mini golf courses and mediocre seafood restaurants with early bird specials. cape cod is for old people. that's why i'm glad i'm only here for one night. and um, hello? i get to go to a health spa! spending a week here getting heckled by my grandmother for being fat and then getting depressed and pissed off at my family and spending the rest of summer in a slump or going to a health spa for three weeks, where i get to relax by myself and read my wonderful books and eat delicious, healthy food and do fun workouts and enjoy beautiful scenery and probably lose weight, getting off to an amazing start for my summer? i'll take the latter, thank you. well, i'm going to go enjoy what little time i have here in the cape. hahaha. i'll ttyl. (don't worry! there's internet at my spa, so there will be many a post to come!) love yaaaaa!!!!

xoxo...megan.

because now i'm feeling quite a bit better.

thanks to all my lj friends for the support! you know who you are! ;)

also, thanks to everyone who recommended the cat empire, they're on the playlist i'm listening to now, and i'm totally loving them!

my lj friends rock!

love you guys!!!!!! <3<3<3

aaah, i guess i should go to sleep soon...i have to go in early to turn in my senior project paper.....riley is so cute, he's watching just like heaven, this is his favorite movie! i guess i best be off to bed...tata.

so i told you about it...

  • May. 11th, 2008 at 3:24 PM

alkaline trio on the hills...here it is...playing in vein, while lauren and lo try to figure out how to get the hell out of there and audrina tries to figure out why here "friends" hate her:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

wow.

i'm not actually laughing.

i'm in shock.

alkaline trio....is working with audrina....on the hills.

yeah, i know, this happened on last night's episode, but i'm finally getting a chance to watch it because all good tv is on monday nights.

wow. let me just say that i've like alkaline trio FOR YEARS...so if they really take off after being on the hills....well, let it be known that i was way ahead of the curve. i love them, and i've though matt skiba was hot for YEAAAAAARS! he was on the ORIGINAL future husbands list.

but hahahaha yeah, you could tell lo and lc were not digging that music. good. actually i'm happy about that. i don't want them to like it. i seriously don't want to listen to the same music as lauren conrad...audrina is coolest out of all of them as far as taste goes anyway, so yeah.

megan's in columbus

  • Apr. 12th, 2008 at 5:36 PM

yes, i am.

i'm here for kt's volleyball tournament. not that i've been to the tournament at all. i went to polaris for a while cuz everyone said that mall is awesome, i didn't really think so....surprisingly, i spent more time in hot topic than any other store....i know, what is this, 2005??? but whatever, i was gonna buy this kiss shirt and some other shirt, i can't remember what it was....wow...i must be going crazy...what the fuck was that shirt of?? i know i was thinking of a toy story shirt but there was another one and i like can't remember it for the life of me!!! i know it was a band shirt because i remember thinking oh, i'm low on band shirts that fit...oh yeah, it was an alkaline trio shirt with silver scissors..that was it.

anyway.

after that i had lunch. but i was feeling really really weird. like dizzy and tired. idk why....i mean i slept until almost noon and then got room service for breakfast so i wasn't tired or hungry...okay, i admit, i got a banana split for breakfast, kill me...anyway...idk, but anyway i came back to the hotel...i'm so lame. there is nothing good on tv at this hotel. they don't get any fun channels, just like a million news channels. last night i had to order 27 dresses just so i would have something fun and cheery on.

i'm in the lobby now. i just had to get out of the room for a while. not that my room is small. actually, i have my own room. i complained that the one mom and katie are in is too small for the three of us so i got my own. i know, i'm such a brat. but it was teeny. and my stomach hurts so it's probably good i have my own room. yeah, ha. idk if i ate gluten or what. i felt really nasaus yesterday...i seriously don't even know how to spell that word. ha.

i've been trying to hook up with josie today but i don't know if it will work....wow, i actually wrote out i don't know instead of idk, ha....i kind of want to see that movie prom night but josie said it's terrible. i'm gonna go look for some reviews for it. then i'm probably gonna read the good german.

bye peeps.

boo.

  • Dec. 2nd, 2007 at 4:45 PM

another loss. we need lebron back. i wish we could play well without him but apparently we can't. boo.

so anyway.

today katie and i did some major christmas shopping. and now the basement is totally a mess. i need to clean that up. but i'll probably do it later.

i have some homework to do. i guess i'll do that later, too....

we're supposed to be decorating the tree soon but right now my dad and uncle john are watching football and my mom is walking the dogs.

my feet smell really bad. not that you need to know that. it's just that i haven't been wearing socks with my uggs.

well here's the one pic for today. i don't even know how sasha played today. i don't know how anyone played. i was at the mall...
