Did you see the season premiere of Gossip Girl?! If you didn't, we'll catch you up. After being stood up by Chuck, Blair decided to fly to Europe anyway, where she hooked up with a guy named James. Now, she's brought him to the Hamptons to close out the summer, making Chuck insanely jealous in the process. So who is this mystery man? His name is Patrick Heusinger, and while he's a TV newcomer, he's anything but an acting newbie. Just finishing up a two-year run on the national tour of Spamalot, Patrick also starred in The Nanny Diaries with ScarJo. Find out what it's like being new kid on the blog, er, block.

How has it been working with the Gossip Girl cast?
It was funny -- I did an interview with somebody yesterday and they asked me, "So are the rumors true about there being feuds on the set?" And I was like, "What? No. No, there's nothing like that at all!" Everybody's so nice and so welcoming. Everybody's so sweet. And the set is really fun, and the energy on set is very positive.

What was it like to get mobbed while filming?
It's not something I'm used to, but they're completely adapted to it and almost comfortable with it in a way. But we would be shooting scenes in parks where four school buses stopped and let them all out just to watch this. When we would shoot on the street, there would be so many. Especially, of course, when folks like Chace were around, it was insane. He would like walk from a van to a car where they were shooting a scene, and we would ruin takes just over screaming girls. I mean, it was pretty hilarious. I think he gets a kick out of it too, and I'm sure he was very flattered. It's just sort of unreal.

Had you watched the show before getting the role?
I watched just one episode… And then when I got the job, I immediately watched. I had three days to prepare, so when I got the job, I watched all 18 episodes in 36 hours. It was kind of a crash course. And then immediately when I stopped watching it, I immediately thought that I sold Girl Scout cookies and I was in love with Chace Crawford… I was completely entertained, completely enthralled. I remember exactly what I was doing in the hotel room in the Hamptons when I was watching the episode where she was like, "I killed someone!" and I was like, "What?!" It was so hilarious. I'm a full-grown man and I am far too excited about what's happening in these episodes of Gossip Girl, but I think that's a real testament to the kind of crossover and demographics that it appeals to.

Which character on the show do you relate to most?
I'm certainly the one I'm playing. I'm very far away from these people. I'm from a very humble background. I'm nothing like what these people are. I maybe share my love of my family that they all seem to have. Even if they're being weird or manipulative or rude or cruel or kids, more or less, to their family, they all still love them. It's interesting. Nate's character really cares for his mother and father. Ed's character, even though he tries to pretend he doesn't like his father, really has this huge, deep love for him and wants to be him in many ways, but is afraid of becoming him. Serena's character absolutely loves her mother, and Blair loves her mother, as well, and her father when he would come back to visit, and has a very deep love for them… However, no, I'm not near to any of these people… You'll see what my character becomes and how he treats people. I feel like I'm pretty "You see what you get," and that's generally what this guy is. Generally.

Have you ever been super jealous over a girl like Chuck is over Blair when your character comes on the scene?
I've totally been super jealous over a girl like that. Yeah. Oh man. And it's funny what you do. I'm sure you know this, too. I'm sure you've been in a situation and you can't help it. Something just happens and you're like, "What?" And you finish with that phase of jealousy and you're like "Wow, I am a ridiculous person," but absolutely, I've had those moments where you can't sleep at night because you're imagining some awful thing happening and you're in love in all the wrong ways for all the wrong reasons, but you're jealous.

Which of the characters would you date in real life?
Honestly, this is probably not the kind of thing I should say, but in real life, if I met a girl like Serena van der Woodsen or if I met a girl like Blair Waldorf, and I wouldn't date them. They're not really my cup of tea. Blake and Leighton are lovely girls. I think that they are wonderful.

Well, Vanessa's a very different type of character…
Actually, you're right. You're right. I would totally be down the Vanessa line. And Jessica's such a sweetie, too. She is so kind and nice and such a great girl… I would say definitely I am definitely been more of a New York hipster guy for sure.

Gossip Girl has an awesome soundtrack, and we hear you're writing a musical about Jeff Buckley. What other music are you into?
Here, I'll pull up my iTunes. I do pay for music -- I'm very passionate about that, too. I buy everything. I'll try to briefly do it this way. Air, this is very eclectic too. I have some Amy Winehouse in there, too, 'cause that was good. Arcade Fire, Ben Folds, Bob Dylan, the Breeders, Iron and Wine, Coldplay, Cream, Damien Rice, I won't make the list long, Radiohead, I'm a major Radiohead fan. Flaming Lips, Gomez, of course, Buckley. The classics: Hendrix, Zeppelin. Muse, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, I have some of my sweet early '90s bands in there. The Rapture, Smashing Pumpkins, Sting, TV on the Radio… Weezer, Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Yeah, that'll be it. I just made a mix like two days ago of what I thought are the most beautiful songs I've ever heard and a lot of those bands are on there.

hottie alert!

We know you've been counting down the days 'til Broadway hit Mamma Mia! hits the big screen, and now you have even more reason to celebrate! Super hottie Dominic Cooper is shirtless and fantastic in the new flick. We'd fly all the way to the Greek Isles to hang out with him any day! To find out what it was like working with Hollywood bigwigs like Meryl Streep, Pierce Brosnan and everyone's favorite Mean Girl Amanda Seyfried, keep clicking!

What is your character, Sky, like in Mamma Mia!?
He's just a guy who's escaped his life in London and now he's on the island helping out the love of his life and her mother with her business because she doesn't have any idea -- she hasn't even heard of the internet yet. Unfortunately, things go a little bit wrong in terms of his wedding; he feels a bit let down throughout -- lied to and left out.

In the film, Sky wants to travel before settling down. Do you want to do the same?
I've done a quite a bit of traveling actually, and I think it's always good to continue to see the world. Luckily, I get to see a bit of this world doing this job, which is fantastic. I had done a fair amount of traveling before I left school and stuff. I think it's very important to find yourself and discover a lot about you.

Mamma Mia! has a star-studded cast. What was it like working with such big names, like Meryl Streep?
It was just, to be honest, a massive learning process. Hopefully [if I] sort of get a tiny drain of her essence out of working with her, [it would be] a really good thing. The moment you stop learning or watching how people interpret stuff is the moment you become sort of a lesser actor.

Was it strange seeing Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan singing and dancing on film?
I'd seen [Meryl Streep] sort of physically do that kind of work before so I knew that she was excellent. To see Pierce, we all looked ridiculous and we were all so unprepared when we first arrived. When we started to do rehearsals, there were 29 dancers surrounding us who were getting ready doing sit-ups and push-ups and we were sort of standing there, the four guys, wearing tight black jeans and winkle bickers not really looking like we were about to be filming.

How was filming in the Greek Isles? Did you all become really close?
We've all stayed in touch, actually, and it was just such a wonderful location and it really, really was the most beautiful spot. I really recommend spending a lot of time on the islands. It's really great [that] it added such an essence to the film. It's like another character, in a way, in the film. There's always the worry when you watch the stage show, "Can we make this as good? Can it have this euphoric and fantastic effect on people as it does in theater?" And I think cinematically it enhances it really and achieves it even more with this beautiful backdrop of Greece and obviously the foundations of the music and a very heartfelt beautiful story that lies in the middle of it. And I think it achieves it fantastically cinematically.

This is your second adaptation of a Broadway show, the first being History Boys. What do you like about making these types of movies?
The wonderful thing about cinema and what it does in Mamma Mia and in History Boys, [is that] you can just get behind the eyes of a character and under the skin because you can see the thought process working, which you can't on a stage and far away. And that makes the story even more effective really because you can interpret what that person is thinking in a close-up.

Which do you like more -- doing theater or film?
I just had a moment a second ago really really wanting to do some theatre. Literally up in my room, three minutes before we started talking. Just the incredible focus you need and the immediacy that you have when you work on a stage with the audience is something you can never really compare to anything.

Had you seen Mamma Mia! as a show a bunch of times before filming?
No, I literally hadn't seen it before or after I was cast. I chose that. I thought maybe it's best not to be influenced on someone else's take on it, or portrayal of the character. I really do believe the film works equally, if not more, than the actual show. It's not meant to be anything more than just a lot of fun, that's what it is fundamentally. I couldn't believe when I watched the film, moments of extreme happiness, fun, clapping along with it, going with the music, [which was] contrasted with real real tear-jerking reflective human moments.

Do you have the Mamma Mia! songs stuck in your head right now?
Yeah, constantly! You never stop. When you hear one of the tracks it's ridiculous. They're always stuck in your head.

What's your favorite song in Mamma Mia?
I always change, but "The Winner Takes It All" is so fantastic in the movie, it really is stunning when you watch that, so it might have to be that in the movie actually.

What was it like filming the "Waterloo" scene in spandex at the end of the film?
It was hilarious. None of us realized we were doing that 'til very late on and it was just a lot of fun. It was all of us getting back together for a reunion. It was just ridiculous -- a reunion wearing those clothes. They were very, very funny. I did have the best color.

What do you hope for in the future for your career -- more film acting or theatre acting?
I'm definitely going to try to do a play next year. I'd love to continue doing a lot of film work, I just want to continue doing a lot of interesting, challenging work that pushes me, but I will always continue to do theatre because I absolutely love it.

Catch Mamma Mia! in theatres July 18!
