so you may have noticed the lack of personal updates. that's because nothing's been going on lately. nothing good anyway. wow, way to be emo meg. but seriously, i've been having a lot of health issues which has led me to having to seriously think about some things and make some serious decisions. i'm not ready to talk about them yet, but i will be soon, so i'm sure everyone will find out in just a few days.

though i haven't been doing all that much, i did get a few fun things in. on wednesday, victoria and i took an adventure out to oberlin to go on it's heritage trail walk. it's such a cute little old town. we had lunch at this mexican restaurant called lupita's, which was seriously, seriously good. great salsa and enchiladas. highly recommended if you're ever out in the oberlin area.

i also read this book yesterday called swoon, by nina malkin which was surprisingly good. it's a "young adult," or if you're me you just call it teen, book. it's just the kind of book i like, kind of spooky but still romantic and light, with a historical part. it's about this girl named candice who's kind of psychic and moves from nyc to a sleepy connecticut town, swoon, where her cousin becomes possessed by a ghost of a boy who was executed in the town in the 1700's for the murder of his love. it's really cool since candice is kind of psychic so she can see the ghost, sinclair or as he goes by later, sin, in her cousin and they can go back in time and stuff to witness the events that took place during sin's life and eventually to solve the murder. eventually candice like exorcises sin from her cousin but in doing so turns him into a real person accidentally and soon realizes that his true purpose in coming back to swoon is to act his revenge upon the descendants of the people that wronged him so long ago. so then candice has this whole struggle with being in love with someone who keeps causing bad things to happen, but who's really sweet inside and she totally sympathizes with how he feels and stuff. it sounds kind of lame, but it's actually really good. anyway, i kind of did a bad job of explaining it, so here's the book trailer (note, i don't really like book trailers because i like to form my own picture of the characters first and this is totally not how i pictured sin, and not how i will continue to picture him, so whatever, read the book and come up with your own picture, too, if you want because i just don't think this one quite fits...it's pretty good, but it's not perfect...to me, ha sorry....):

and here's the author nina malkin talking about her book:

she has a pretty good website if you want to check it out: http://www.ninamalkin.com

along the lines of things that i've been doing lately...tonight i went to see bandslam with my cousin. i'm not sure if i liked it or not. if you ask me, it was way too serious for a kids' movie. way too many serious topics. i mean, there were more aspects of the movie that i liked than disliked, i was just under the impression it was more of a comedy and less of a drama, but whatever. there were definitely funny parts and all and i did get some good laughs, and of course i enjoyed the plethora of musical references and the stereotypical teenage characters. i also liked vanessa hudgens and aly michalka's wardrobes. the music was pretty enjoyable, too. here's vanessa hudgens/"i can't go on, i'll go on" (the band's name...i know right....) performing "everything i own" (that bread song that's been covered by basically everyone):

and there are some hot guys in it, too.....like scott porter, who played ben wheatly. even though he looked waaaay too old to be in high school, he's still hot.

and ryan donowho who played the drummer was also rather hot. he used to be in michael pitt's band pagoda.

the movie also features performances by real bands the burning hotels and the daze. it's worth checking out, i guess. pretty good, and way more complicated than you'd expect.

anyway. i don't really have anything else to say right now. i probably will later. so, until then....

sheree whitfield, repping her own fashion line, she by sheree on her way in to the wendy williams show. is she available to the public yet, or only to sheree? this outfit is a bit too matchy matchy if you ask me...i mean, i got rid of my pink velour track suit for good last spring, and thought that was a little bit late, but whatever, she's sheree so i guess she can do whatever she wants.

amy adams on her way in to good morning america. i love her classic look!

omg, aly and aj look so grown up! i barely even recognized them! they look great though...i can't wait for aly's new movie with vanessa hudgens, band slam.

joanna garcia on the set of gossip girl. she'll be playing bree buckley, a "southern belle" that gets involved with nate. hmm, that'll be interesting.

the caption for this photo says "blake lively in high spirits as she films a kissing scene with sebastian stan(who plays carter baizen) on the set of gossip girl." hmmm, so serena and carter kiss next season? i wonder what this means...especially now that we now that carter has located serena's father... and i also wonder how leighton feels about blake kissing her man? ha.

omg, i just stumbled upon this band and i absolutely love them. they're called care bears on fire and they are totally awesome!!! care bears on fire is a trio of teenage girls from brooklyn named sophie, izzy and jena. they've been around for a few years, since they were ten and eleven years old!, now they're like fourteen and fifteen, my sister's age, way younger than me!. anyway, i just picked up their new album "get over it" and it's great. what really intrigued me was their name, i mean, how awesome of a name is that?!?!?!?! i guess they're like a "pop punk" band, but they're definitely not the cookie-cutter disney channel pop punk that you might expect from girls their age like demi lovato or aly and aj. or even avril lavigne for that matter. their sound has a lot more to it. it actually reminds me of the girl bands of my youth, and by this i do not mean the spice girls, i mean the girl bands that were around when i was really young but that i didn't necessarily start listening to until i was 13 or 14. they have almost this female, late grunge aspect to some of their songs. dare i even say riot grrl? on some tracks they kind of remind me of bikini kill, with the whole harsh aspect that they have and they also remind me of veruca salt with the hard rocking instruments and the poppy-sweet vocals. they actually remind me a lot of this band that i was really into a few years ago called magneta lane. but what really sets them apart is the adorable cleverness of their lyrics. they have adorable song titles like "met you on myspace" and "barbie eat a sandwich." their songs are really catchy and their lyrics are cute and i found myself singing along right away. anyway, they're definitely really talented for their age, but even if they weren't such a young wonders i think i would listen to them anyway because they really do have that sound that i really like and their lyrics are really fun and definitely relatable for anyone that's ever been in high school (which, come on let's admit it, never really ends...it's the same old shit in a different setting). they've got this awesome "fuck you" aspect that anyone who loves punk rock will surely be in to. i'd definitely say they're not just for kids (which is why i was definitely surprised when i heard they were on tour with the naked brothers band, i totally feel like they could be opening for a REAL band, but whatever). here, seriously, check them out!

i am in shock at how bad this movie looks...from popwrap:

Vanessa Hudgens' New Movie is All Sorts of Wrong

What is the most hideous thing about the trailer for "Band Slam," the new Vanessa Hudgens movie, you ask?

Is it the jokes about not wanting to be Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers? The utter wasting of Lisa Kudrow? The baby stripper voice Vanessa uses to shout "Let's! Start! Shredding!" at the beginning?

No, while all of those moments are truly terrifying, the most painful moment also looks to be the film's most unintentionally hilarious. Judging from the 2-minute highlight reel, it would seem that real-life musician Vanessa Hudgens is incapable of convincingly playing an on-screen musician.

It looks like she's never even held a guitar in a few of these scenes. You know, like when a child holds a baby, they're all befuddled and awkward looking. Yep, that's what's happening here. Anyone else smelling direct-to-DVD?

can the world handle another miley?

elle girl thinks we can!!!!!!! new from our favorite now-defunct magazine:

Meet the next Miley Cyrus

12 teens who have what it takes to be the next It Girl

By Rebecca Davis

While Miley Cyrus deals with her own personal scandal, a new group of girls are getting ready to become heir apparent to the teen queen throne. From Hannah Montana’s BFF Emily Osment to Miley’s tour openers Aly & AJ, these 12 girls have what it takes to become household names. Take our poll and let us know who you think will be the next Miley Cyrus.

Emily Osment

Who she is: Her older brother may have seen dead people (that’s Haley Joel, for those who were too scared to see The Sixth Sense), but Emily Osment’s seeing stars. The 16-year-old actress plays Miley Cyrus’s BFF both in real life and on Hannah Montana.

Why she’s the next Miley: Emily is no second banana; not only does she have her own alias on Hannah Montana, but she’s been in several movies (including Spy Kids 2 and 3), hosted the Disney Christmas Parade in 2006, and is the face of denim brand Vanilla Star.

Miranda Cosgrove

Who she is: From a know-it-all in School of Rock to a prankster in Drake & Josh to an online celeb in iCarly, Miranda Cosgrove is no one-trick pony.

Why she’s the next Miley: The girl was born with talent—she was first spotted by an agent when she was only four years old! Miranda went from supporting player in Drake & Josh to lead in iCarly, and we get the feeling that this is only the beginning of her upward trajectory.

Alyson Stoner

Who she is: Remember that girl break dancing in Missy Elliott’s “Work It” video? That was Alyson Stoner. Or the lacrosse-playing sister in Cheaper by the Dozen? Also Alyson Stoner. And, yes, the singer behind the cover of JoJo’s “Baby It’s You”, Alyson Stoner.

Why she’s the next Miley: She sings, she dances, she acts. What can’t Alyson Stoner do? She’s starring in what should be the big Disney Channel hit movie of the summer, Camp Rock, and is working on a top-secret dance-video hybrid that’s being announced soon. We don’t know the details of this project but, whatever it is, this triple threat teen could make like Miley and be the next big thing.

Aly & AJ

Who they are: This singing sister pop duo has already put out two albums, released a limited edition Aly & AJ Hello Kitty doll, and, in the case of Alyson, acted on the Disney Channel TV show Phil of the Future.

Why they’re the next Miley: They replaced the Jonas Brothers as openers on the Hannah Montana Best of Both Worlds tour—not an easy feat, considering that the boys are bona fide heartthrobs. Their next album, due at the end of the year, could be the big break that they’ve been waiting for.

Chelsea Staub

Who she is: Chelsea Staub is a total drama queen—she got her start in the national Broadway production of Showboat when she was only nine years old! Since then, she’s starred in Bratz: The Movie (playing mean girl Meredith Baxter Dimly) and has had supporting roles in Minutemen and the TV show Wizards of Waverly Place.

Why she’s the next Miley: She’s already made her silver screen acting debut, but Chelsea is finally getting a big role in a Disney Channel show come fall 2008—the Jonas Brothers’s TV series J.O.N.A.S! Watch Walt Disney work its magic on this up-and-coming blonde.

Demi Lovato

Who she is: It was the big purple dinosaur, Barney, who gave Demi Lovato her first big break. Since then, she’s been working non-stop, guest starring on TV shows like Prison Break and Just Jordan and landing a regular role on the Disney Channel series As the Bell Rings.

Why she’s the next Miley: Demi acts (check her out in this summer’s Camp Rock on the Disney Channel), sings (see her on tour with the Jonas Brothers and Avril Lavigne this summer), and posts her own vlog with BFF and Disney co-star Selena Gomez. If Disney doesn’t make her a star, she’ll do it herself on YouTube.

Care Bears on Fire

Who they are: Sophie and Izzy play guitar and drums, respectively, for the Brooklyn-based rock band Care Bears on Fire (along with their bassist, Lucio). They may prefer smoky clubs to red carpets, but these two 7th grade girls are anything but wallflowers; they’ve performed with established, older bands like the Dirtbombs, been on the cover of USA Today, and have even been featured in a commercial for Converse (that was Sophie, strumming her acoustic guitar).

Why they’re the next Miley: Although you’d never hear them on Radio Disney, it’s hard to ignore Sophie and Izzy’s raw talent. They’re playing London’s Underage Festival this summer, and are busy promoting their recently-released debut album, I Stole Your Animal. Think of them as the indie girl’s answer to Hannah Montana.

Selena Gomez

Who she is: Like her BFF Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez got her start on Barney & Friends before landing a leading role in the Disney TV series Wizards of Waverly Place. Like her character, Alex Russo, Selena has a magical ability to make things happen for herself.

Why she’s the next Miley: It’s no coincidence that Selena played a pop star rival to Hannah Montana on TV; the actress is definitely a major threat. She’s starring as the main character in the film Another Cinderella Story, and just lent her voice to the movie Horton Hears a Who! We hear “big success.”

Jemma McKenzie-Brown

Who she is: This young British actress made her onscreen debut as the daughter of a newly-named Prime Minister in the PBS series The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard, although she’s since snagged roles in British TV shows like MI High.

Why she’s the next Miley: Jemma managed to beat out 600 other aspiring Mileys when she landed a starring role in High School Musical 3. Rumor has it that her character will be leading the next generation cast, once Zac, Vanessa, and Ashley move on to bigger and better things.

Kate Voegele

Who she is: Although she’s no longer a teen, 21-year-old singer Kate Voegele has slowly been climbing her way up the popstar ladder. Her debut album, Don’t Look Away, reached #27 on the charts, and more recently she landed a recurring guest spot as a—surprise!—musician on One Tree Hill.

Why she’s the next Miley: Musical talent: check. TV show: check. Next up, Kate’s going on tour with big-names like Hanson and Natasha Bedingfield. Expect her to gain newly-converted followers as she crosses the country.

::heart::

Girl Crush: Aly Michalka
Posted Aug 1st 2007 3:00PM by Christina Lang

Top three reasons why I'm crushing on the older half of sister duo Aly & AJ, Aly Michalka.

1. It's pretty much a guarantee that anyone who graces the Disney Channel is going to grow up to be a looker (i.e. Britney (pre-trainwreck), JT, Hilary Duff). Simply put, it was only a matter of time before this 'Phil of the Future' star topped my list of musical hotties.

2. I have a soft spot (which I rarely own up to) for extremely cheesy TV movies. Not the Lifetime mushy stuff, but the verging on hilariously crappy teen TV flicks. That being said, Aly just starred in 'My Super Sweet Sixteen: The Movie.' Got it?

3. The new Aly & AJ song, 'Potential Breakup Song,' is so infectious. I've watched the video more than 50 times and I'm still not sick of it. Anyone who grabs my attention for that long can only mean one thing: I'm crushing.
