OSCAR winner and former "American Idol" star Jennifer Hudson hasn't been able to perform since her mother, sister and nephew were brutally murdered in October - but sources say she may be summoning up the strength for President-elect Barack Obama. "Organizers want Jennifer to sing 'The Star-Spangled Banner' at the Inauguration on Jan. 20," our source said. "They are talking to Jennifer about it. It would be the first time she performed since the murders. She is from Chicago and a huge Obama supporter." Hudson sang the national anthem at the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August. Mother and Brother of Jennifer Hudson Are Killed in Shooting

(Oct. 24) -- The publicist for Jennifer Hudson has confirmed that the singer's mother and brother are dead after a fatal shooting in Chicago.

"We can confirm that there is an ongoing investigation concerning the deaths of Jennifer Hudson's mother, Darnell Donerson, and her brother, Jason Hudson," rep Lisa Kasteler tells PEOPLE. "No further comment will be made and the family has asked that their privacy be respected at this difficult time."

TMZ first reported that law enforcement sources and neighbors said that Hudson's mother and brother were the victims of a double shooting.

Police spokeswoman Monique Bond said the deaths appeared to be the result of domestic abuse.
Deputy Chief Joseph Patterson said a family member entered the home around 3 p.m. Friday, found a woman shot on the living room floor and left to notify authorities. Responding officers found a man shot in the bedroom, Patterson said. There was no sign of forced entry.

Police tape blocked access to the large, white house, where a crowd gathered outside.

Authorities issued an Amber Alert for 7-year-old Julian King, and were seeking a 1994 white Chevrolet Suburban. The child was the grandson of the female victim, Patterson said.

The alert said the child was possibly abducted, and could be accompanied by a man named William Balfour — considered armed and dangerous — who was a suspect in the double homicide investigation. Records with the Illinois Department of Corrections show Balfour, 27, who has not been charged with a crime, is on parole and spent nearly seven years in prison for attempted murder, vehicular hijacking and possessing a stolen vehicle.

The two could also be in a teal or green Chrysler Concord with a temporary license plate, a left front headlight hanging out and scratches on the left side of the vehicle, police said.
The tragedy comes as Hudson, who grew up in Chicago, continues to reach new heights in her career. Her song "Spotlight" is No. 1 on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop charts and her recently released, self-tiled album debut and has been a top seller. She was featured in this year's blockbuster "Sex and the City" and is also starring in hit movie "The Secret Life of Bees."

She won an Academy Award for best supporting actress in 2007 for her role in "Dreamgirls." In an interview last year with Vogue, Hudson credited her mother with encouraging her to audition for "American Idol," which launched her career.

The singer, whose father died when she was a teenager, described herself as very close to her family. In a recent AP interview she said her family, which includes older siblings Julia and Jason, helped keep her grounded.

"My faith in God and my family, they're very realistic and very normal, they're not into the whole limelight kind of thing, so when I go home to Chicago that's just another place that's home," she said. "I stand in line with everybody else, or, when I go home to my mom I'm just Jennifer, (so she says), 'You get up and you take care of your own stuff.' And I love that; I don't like when people tell you everything you want to hear, I want to hear the truth, you know what I mean."

Hudson recently announced her engagement to David Otunga, best known for his stint on VH1's reality show "I Love New York."

Hudson's representatives would not disclose her whereabouts Friday. She had been scheduled to appear Monday in Los Angeles to collect an ensemble cast honor at the Hollywood Awards for "The Secret Life of Bees" with co-stars including Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah and Dakota Fanning.

On getting silly with her co-stars: “Everyone is really funny and has such strange things that they do. Like Leighton does amazing voice impressions, and she can impersonate anyone’s face. Chace does an amazing impression of Scott Stapp from Creed. Ed is always singing. Taylor is just so adorable, I just want to bake her a cupcake. And Penn does these silly dance moves, and he’s very witty and quick, so it’s fun to have sharp banter with him.”
On why she doesn't hit the NYC hot spots: “I don’t drink, so when you’re going out to a really loud place, where you can’t talk to other people, and people are drinking, you can’t really have a conversation. I just never really found too much joy in it. Especially if there’s something else fun to do, like play Guitar Hero.”
On how actors fall for each other off-set: “Maybe when they kiss off the set – because it’s definitely not romantic on the set, that’s for sure. When you’re saying these words that people are making you say to one another, nothing about it is real or genuine. So if two people connect outside their characters, then that’s how they get together.”

news on gossip girl! nate is going to get with an older woman! from just jared:
Chace Crawford films scenes with newbie Madchen Amick for their cult series, Gossip Girl, in New York City on Thursday. Amick, 37, will appear in the first few eps of the new season as cougar Catherine Mason and tempt Nate Archibald (Crawford, 22) with a May-December romance. In the first four or five episodes, it will also be revealed that Amick’s character will also have “a surprising connection to another new character on the show.”
hmmm, wonder what that last part means?????? ah, so excited!!!!!

speaking of gossip girl, buzzsugar has five questions for them:

Will the viewers ever come? Much has been made about Gossip Girl being a high-buzz, low-ratings series, which gets its stars on magazine covers but can't break 3 million viewers per week. Part of that could be due to the different ways the show's young demographic watches TV — some of which can't be tracked by any existing methods (and which are certainly not counted by advertisers). But part of it could just be that not that many people are watching. I keep thinking the buzz will have to pay off in ratings eventually; will this be the year?

Dan and Serena: Will they? Won't they? Do we care? Dan and Serena's relationship is the centerpiece of all the show's many romantic liaisons, but they've already been brought together and ripped apart so many times that I'm starting to get whiplash. It's turning a little into Derek and Meredith 2.0 — when they're together, they're kind of boring, but when they're apart, it just seems like they're in placeholder relationships that don't mean anything since we know they'll just be back together again anyway.

What will become of Georgina? I thought Michelle Trachtenberg gave the show a much-needed evilness infusion as Georgina Sparks, but the resolution to her storyline was one of many things that fell flat in the season finale. Last we saw, she was being shipped off to reform school — but we now know Trachtenberg will be back on the show come Fall. How will little Georgie get herself out of this one?

How much will happen over the Summer? Remember, we're talking about a show that set up a whole set of relationships in the finale, then flipped them on their heads within 10 minutes thanks to a little "one week later" flash-forward. What's going to happen when our Upper East Siders have three whole months of scandal and sun in the Hamptons to fuel them? Will we recognize a single scenario when the show picks up in the Fall?

Will there really be a spinoff? While those first rumors of a spinoff seem a little shady now, it doesn't seem out of the question that GG would use this season to prime one (or more) characters for a second show. After all, it happened in the books. Will certain characters get more time in the spotlight next year to see how they'd do as the focus of a separate series?

10. samir ja-ja (i have no idea how to actually spell his name)....OMG! victoria had this memory of this kid who used to go to our school and the way he wore his hair and she just COULD NOT STOP LAUGHING!!!!!!!!! it was soooo funny!!!! people were looking at our lunch table and it was almost embarrassing but not really because it was mostly just hilarious.

9. drive the boat!!! in seventh grade discovering technology i decided to debut my new dance move. i think we were talking about mariah carey or something and i was like yeah, you know, i made this dance move that i could totally see people doing in music videos...and then i did it and everyone was like NEVER AGAIN! but of course, i would just bust it out sometimes like at that haunted house thing in ninth grade when those people just stopped and looked at me....hahahahahaha. oh, and the best part was that the guy sitting next to me at the cavs game one time last year just started doing the drive the boat, and while i was sitting right next to him, i called up victoria and was like um you won't believe this but this guy totally just did the drive the boat!!!!

8. rachel said she listens to underground rap....like fabulous!!! hahaha, i'm sorry rachel, i love you, but that was fucking funny!

7. i wasn't even there but rachel and taylor had this fake romance thing going on all year in their math class and would always have these little jokes going on and then one day taylor said something to rachel and rachel said, tay why don't you call me by my nickname? and taylor was like, you mean buck....naked. and the whole class heard. it was really bizarre.

6. one time we were at barnes and noble and this guy that worked in the music section was talking to us...he said yeah, when i'm at the clubs (first of all, who goes to clubs anymore...second, who says that?!?!?!?!) you know who people always say i look like? bo bice. it was just the way he said it that made it really fucking hilarious.

5. heather likes jersey shore boys!!!!! hahaha, it's just this ongoing joke because i guess heather said that one of those guys on that true life episode or something wasn't that bad looking when the rest of us were like omg they're all so skeezy!!!!!

4. that drunk girl dancing at the cavs game. that was so funny. she was like crawling over seats and doing these very strrrrrrrrrrange dances. finally she got kicked out. classic.

3. caroline used xanga longer than anyone else in the world. ha. ha. ha.

2. when we were playing taboo and arianne said people at school might describe her as this. the word was oddball. wtf.

1. that time ayla and i got our nails done and the manicurist was telling us about how she was late to work because she was pretty sure she had an std. that was so bizarre.

besides there being an awesome new american idol...there have been other happenings in the world....

first, why do heidi and spencer feel it necessary to ruin everything?!?!?!?! everything is just a photo op for them, gag! baseball is sacred! why did they even go to this game, they probably didn't even understand it! the best part of this story is that the crowd booed them when they were put on the jumbotron!
